Arrive Cairo, Egypt, and transfer to our hotel. Balance of day at leisure. Relax, enjoy Hotel pool.
TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2006
CAIRO – Sheraton Royal Garden – B, L, D
We will visit the Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum. Begin at the Pyramids of Cheops, Khefren, and Mycerinus. Continue to the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. Finally, a visit to the world-renowned Egyptian Museum, with its treasures of King Tutankhamon and remains dating back some 3350 years. This evening, we will enjoy the Sound and Light Show at the Great Pyramid.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2006
ABU SIMBEL; CRUISE ON “KING OF THEBES” – B, L, D
Pre-dawn flight Cairo to Abu Simbel. Here we marvel at the massive rock-hewn temples of Rameses II and his wife Nefertari. They were moved from their original location and encased in a man-made mountain, to be protected from the lake (Nasser) that would result from the construction of the Aswan Dam. We will fly to Aswan about noon and view the Aswan High Dam, the granite quarries and Unfinished Obelisk, and Philae’s Temple of Isis. Then, we will embark on our Luxury Cruise ship “King of Thebes,” our “hotel” for 3 nights. Sail to Kom Ombo to see the Ptolemaic Temple built for Horus and Sobek. Sail to Edfu.

Today we travel by horse-drawn carriage to visit the 2000-year-old, well-preserved, Temple of Horus. This afternoon we will sail via Esna to Luxor.
FRIDAY, MARCH 24, 2006

Today we travel to the West Bank of the Nile to visit the Necropolis of Thebes, the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Valley of the Kings, and the Valley of the Queens. This evening, we will enjoy a Sound and Light Show at the Temple of Karnak.
SATURDAY, MARCH 25, 2006
CRUISE; CAIRO – Sheraton Royal Garden – B, L, D
This morning, visit the Temples of Karnak and Luxor, and the Avenue of the Sphinxes. Disembark the cruise and transfer to the airport in Luxor for our flight back to Cairo. Transfer to our Hotel.

Enjoy the day at leisure in Cairo. Browse and Shop the Cairo Bazaars. Swim in Hotel Pool.

SAFARI TO MERSA MATRUH – Beau Site Hotel – B, L, D
Leaving Cairo behind, it is into the desert for us! We will begin with the WWII battleground of El Alamein, where thousands died in a struggle to control the Suez Canal and its oil chokepoints. Then, lunch in Mersa Matruh. A tour of the white sand beaches and Romel’s Cave. We will visit a mosque dedicated to a holy man who floated for week. In the evening, after free time to bargain for native silver jewelry and goods from Libya, we will arrive at our hotel.
TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 2006
SALOUM - PRIVATE TENT CAMP - B, L, D
We depart via air-conditioned coach to our Location for Totality on the Libyan Border in Saloum. We will have lunch, and photo opportunities, en route. Our luxurious Private Tent Camp includes Dinner tonight, and Breakfast, Lunch, and plentiful water and soft drinks during Eclipse time. In the evening, we will have an Eclipse Party with some local entertainment, local dancing, and a desert cookout under the stars!

After 4th Contact and Lunch, we head for Alexandria, where the balance of the day is spent touring the most important monuments.

After arrival from Alexandria, last chance to shop, return to Museum, or relax at the pool. Farewell Dinner.

Today we bid farewell to Cairo and transfer to the airport for our departure flight.
