CEDUNA - PRIVATE ECLIPSE VIEWING AREA
Our Eclipse viewing site is located right by the shoreline a short distance from the town of Ceduna. The GPS co-ordinates of the Camp Site are S32° 08' 56.3" E133° 41'23.7". Totality in this area will occur 48 minutes prior to sunset. Totality at Ceduna will last 34 seconds with the sun 9 degrees above the horizon. The prospects for clear skies are excellent and the expected onshore winds will moderate the seasonally very hot temperatures found in the interior.
In the Ceduna area, the width of the track is only some 35 km wide and points to the East and West (Wirrulla and Penong) are well clear of the track.
After crossing over Ceduna, the path of Totality will head northeast across the Stuart Highway where totality at Lyndhurst will occur 20 minutes prior to sunset, will last 26 seconds and the sun will be at an altitude of only 6
degrees above the horizon. The sun will move progressively lower in the sky until totality occurs at sunset near the Queensland, New South Wales, South Australian border.
We do have a SUPERIOR ECLIPSE VIEWING LOCATION in Australia 2002. The additional few seconds of Totality (34 seconds), plus the persistent on-shore winds will moderate the heat! Unlike the excessive heat expected in the interior (exceeding 40° Celsius - 104 ° Fahrenheit), our expectation is for more comfortable temperatures, combined with excellent viewing of the shadow racing over the ocean. Any low stratus that may develop off the coast will be confined to ocean areas. Even with on-shore flow, the stratus can be expected to dissipate quickly.
As usual, we will have vehicles standing by in the unlikely event that we need to move inland a few hundred meters, more or less. Very exciting prospects for clear skies and beautiful viewing - continuing our 100% successful viewing of all Total Solar Eclipses to which we have traveled since 1959!
Our private eclipse viewing area will be located at a site no less than 850 meters long by 30 meters wide. This private eclipse viewing area is exclusively reserved for just 60 persons, in 3 groups of 20 persons each group, and will be secure and exclusive for just these 60 persons.
Note: Winco participants will travel as a group of only 20 persons throughout our exciting Australia December 3 and December 4, at the Ceduna camp-site. Eclipse Adventure. There will be 3 groups, 20 persons each group, following similar itineraries and coming together only at our private camp-site. Each group of 20 persons will have its own group leader, using same facilities but in differing orders of arrival and departure.
With the exception of our private Ceduna camp-site, the Winco Eclipse Tours group will consist of only 20 persons traveling together, as announced. The 3 groups will be together only for the nights of December 3 and December 4.
The camp site is part of an existing camp ground, which features camping and caravan areas and permanent shacks. We will have three campsites located here, accommodating twenty people at each site. Tented accommodation will be erected at these sites. There will be other people within the campgrounds at the same time as our groups. However, staff will be on hand throughout our stay to provide assistance and secure our sites for our three groups.
Toilet and shower facilities will be shared at the camp. There will be total of 10 showers and toilets located at the site, consisting of two existing toilet and shower blocks with additional toilet and shower facilities to be hired for the event especially for our groups. Professional catering will be provided by our representative for our three groups of 20 persons each, total of 60, and there will be a shared dining facility for this purpose.
