FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29 & SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30
KANGAROO ISLAND
KANGAROO ISLAND LODGE - WATERVIEW ROOMS (B, L, D daily)
After breakfast our local naturalist guide will meet us at our hotel and we will depart in our comfortable 4 WD vehicles to explore. The island's diverse landscapes provide ideal habitats for sea lions, fur seals, endemic kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, platypus, goanna lizards and 243 species of birds, many of which are rare or endangered. Each day, we will enjoy a delicious lunch en-route. Return to our hotel in the afternoon to relax before enjoying a drink and a chat about each day's events over dinner.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 01 & MONDAY, DECEMBER 02
KANGAROO ISLAND / BAIRD BAY
After breakfast we will be driven to Kangaroo Island Airport. On arrival, our representative will meet us and assist with our luggage. We will check in for our charter flight to Streaky Bay on South Australia's west coast. We will be welcomed at the airstrip and assisted with our luggage. Then, we will depart for Baird Bay, where we will be met by our hosts, Alan and Trish Payne. Take time to relax and unpack.
BAIRD BAY - (B, L, D)
Baird Bay is in the shallow arm of Anxious Bay, which explorer Captain Matthew Flinders was unable to see, even from the ship's main mast, in 1802. The bay's 9,500 acres contain a beautiful sweeping beach. However, Flinders saw only the mouth with its small island. Our hosts Alan and Trish Payne were so entranced with the beauty of the bay while on holiday from Western Australia, that they decided to move and live there permanently!
Over the next two days we will be taken on an amazing marine adventure. Each day, we will board our vessel “The Investigator” and head out into the bay to enjoy a friendly and unforgettable swim with the resident pod of dolphins and the only surviving mainland based colony of the rare Australian sea lion. Some of the sea lions weigh in excess of 550 pounds and watching them play and imitate your awkward movements in their natural environment is a wonderful experience.
After our refreshing swim with the locals we will motor out through the heads (weather permitting) and look in awe at the magnitude of the cliffs that run along the coastline. Perhaps we will see some of the local sea eagles. Fishing in the area is excellent, so you might like to try your luck for local favorites such as snapper and King George whiting. If successful, we will be served the most delicious Sushi immediately. A delicious lunch will be served to us daily. In the afternoon, we will return to shore to relax and enjoy the Paynes' hospitality.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 03 - BAIRD BAY / CEDUNA
CEDUNA SHARED ECLIPSE CAMP - (B, L, D)
After breakfast this morning, we will be driven to Ceduna where we will enjoy a sightseeing excursions before checking in to our beachside “Eclipse Camp.”
Ceduna and the area that surrounds it exude a gentle rural charm. Today, Ceduna supports a large agricultural community. The small township of Thevanard extends out on the peninsula south of Ceduna and has a deep-sea port which is vital for the bulk handling and shipping of grain, gypsum, and salt. Thevenard is also home port to a fleet of professional fishing vessels. Not far away is Denial Bay, home of the oyster industry.
On arrival into camp this afternoon we will be free to relax and unwind. Our accommodations will be provided “Aussie” style in tents with “swags,” the traditional Australian bedroll. Professional caterers will provide delicious meals throughout our stay. The camp will feature shared bush toilet and shower facilities, especially prepared for our group.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 04 - ECLIPSE DAY!
CEDUNA SHARED ECLIPSE CAMP - (B, L, D)
Today, spend the day at leisure in camp prior to the eclipse. Our Camp is just a short walk to the ocean so you might like to enjoy a refreshing swim or walk along the beach. You might like to explore the Ceduna township at your own pace. By afternoon, we will move to our beachfront eclipse viewing site.
We will have a private area reserved for us - the perfect spot to set up your camera equipment. A large marquee will be erected in which to relax and enjoy refreshments prior to the Big Event.
First contact will occur at approximately 18:40:11.
Second contact at approx. 19:40:06.
Maximum Eclipse will be at 19:42:22.
End of Totality is approx. 19:40:38.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 05 - CEDUNA / PARACHILNA
THE PRAIRIE HOTEL - (B, L, D)
After breakfast in camp this morning, we will be driven to the Ceduna airstrip to board our private charter flight inland to Parachilna. Here we will be welcomed and driven to the Prairie Hotel, our home for the next two nights. The Prairie Hotel was first licensed in 1876. Today it is owned by Jane and Ross Fargher.
The Farghers have embraced the old with the new by bringing a stunning new dimension to Outback living. In the sleepy town of Parachilna (population seven), the Prairie Hotel has created a quiet revolution in outback hospitality and cuisine. Each guest room is designed to be environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing, decorated to complement the colors of the Outback. Each guest room features en-suite bathroom.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 06 - PARACHILNA
THE PRAIRIE HOTEL (B, L, D)
Today, we depart to explore Nilpena Station, owned by our hosts Jane and Ross Fargher. The Farghers are one of the original pastoral families in this area. We will enjoy private access to some beautiful scenic ranges, magnificent sand dunes, the vastness of Lake Torrens, world renowned fossil reserves, and the opportunity to observe and participate in life on a working sheep / cattle station.
While traversing the countryside, we will trace the footsteps of the early pioneers, visit local ruins, and gain an insight into the lives of the local Aborigines. We will meet the local characters who make the Outback their home. We will try the legendary “feral food” and native cuisine that has made the hotel unique. Or - taste some of the local bush tucker collected within this area.
We will experience the sheer vastness of the properties and perhaps check the stock and the watering points on the way home. Combined with great food and wine, Jane and Ross give guests the opportunity to experience genuine Outback hospitality in an Australian atmosphere.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 07 & SUNDAY, DECEMBER 08
PARACHILNA / MURRAY RIVER
PORTEE STATION STATION (B, L, D)
This morning we will be driven to the airstrip to board our charter flight to Portee Station, a 20,000 hectare commercial sheep property located alongside the Murray River, a completely different environment to that found at Nilpena Station.
The homestead was built on the edge of the River Murray flood plain in 1878. Shaded by beautiful river red gums, the homestead has been lovingly restored. The property covers a diverse range of country, from the undulating scrubland to the river.
A variety of activities are available, allowing us to view the abundant native flora and fauna such as kangaroos, emus and the wonderfully intriguing hairy-nosed wombat. Birdlife flourishes on the adjoining lagoons and billabongs of the River Murray. A boat trip of these wetlands offers a close up view of the abundant bird life.
Our guest rooms are situated within the newly refurbished historic homestead, each featuring an en-suite bathroom. We will enjoy a superb range of delicious Australian meals which are accompanied by a selection of fine wines from the Barossa Valley.
